Has PayPal Express changed the way it...

One of the biggest problems with PayPal Express, it that it required customers to create PayPal accounts to use the service. However checking out the PayPal Express button on one of my Zen powered shopping carts this morning, the PayPal greeting page now says 'Don't have a PayPal account - No problem' and gives users the ability to pay by credit card ? Tried it out with couple of other people's sites that have PayPal Express checkout buttons and got same screen.

Don't know if this is a temporary glitch on PayPal's site, or they have changed the way their system works? Cleaned out the cache on my system to make sure nothing was being stored, but no the PayPal page is still showing the 'Don't have a PayPal account - No problem' on its greeting page for PayPal Express at the moment.

Having checked it out further, this issue fortunately doesn't affect any SCC powered carts. It seems the problem only occurs where both PayPal Express is available to bypass registration and PayPal standard is available for those going through the registration process on some other types of cart. Having browsed the web this morning, an awful lot of carts out there appear to have this potential problem. From my understanding you must have a PayPal account for the Express system to work.

Fortunately SCC only offers the PayPal choices of either PayPal Express, or PayPal standard payment, you cannot inadvertently select both in SCC. Yet another reason why Coffeecup scores highly again. Simple, efficient and workable. ;)

Perhaps the thing I like most about SCC, is being able to store all the files on your local computer and just upload files when needed. Compare this with other systems where you have to login to the admin panel of your site and upload each product individually, then take regular backups of your site and databases which then have to be downloaded onto your computer, in case your host's server breaks, or your hosting company suddenly ceases trading. Even with ASDL connections, those downloads can take hours. With Shopping Cart Creator, your site is safely on your computer at all times. How brilliant is that? Maximum kudos to the Coffeecup guys.

I was always under the impression that PayPal Express always forced an account to be created or log in with an existing one. That was one of the reasons we added Website Payments Standard. They seem to make so many changes, I can never really keep up ;)

I had an email from Paypal a couple of months ago regarding this change

From memory (which in my case is rubish) i think it was initiallly a trial

It occured around about the time scc got the standard option

I have not tried it yet, as i cant upload anything , waiting for my new broadband, next friday, using temp dial up at present !!!!

If it works it will be a huge advantage, i had no orders on my scc site untill i changed to standard (ipn) in UK

I must admit that I don't like PayPal Express at all. I only use it on my 'other' cart software to allow customers to bypass the site registration forms.

I think it is more the premise of the customer logging into their PayPal account, giving authorisation then normally getting taken back to the seller's site, often with no real control over the process that I find worrying. It's a bit like someone walking away with your wallet, before you actually know what the true cost of the deal is.

From a customers perspective, with PayPal standard (ipn) they know exactly what the item is going to cost with shipping expenses etc before they log into their PayPal account, or make payment with credit cards. That is a massive plus point and the primary reason I decided to move over to Shopping Cart Creator.

I have to admit i was rather pleased when scc added standard (ipn)

And for the exact same reasons as above

I think i lost lots of customers in Cubecart because of the log in page

Initially (typical novice) mine was not https as no ssl but after i added the ssl strangely enough my sales went down even further (probably credit crunch related)

I have been advised i will still loose some customers on basis that they do not all like being moved from one site to another

And i think especially those who are still stuck with dial up may be amongst the losses.

With cubecart you are able to have two Paypal options working side by side

I think from memmory Standard (ipn) and express checkout which i also tried,

maybe coffeecup could eventually do the same ?

I little bump on this thread..........

Can someone break down the differences between PayPal standard and express?

Which is the best to use?

Have things changed since this last post?

Express requires your customers to create an account to make payment. Website Payments Standard does not.

Please don't double post the same thing in different threads. This creates more things that people have to read and one place is plenty. Thanks.
