I have already designed my site in vsd and now want to add shop pages. Is this OK or do you have to start building the whole site from chopping cart creator?

I understand your question. I give you my example, I have a website and later purchase th SCC and SCD and made the shopping. What i have done was to integrate the shopping in my site through menu.

This is already a new version with more integration. My website was done with HTML Editor
You may put the shopping aside with your pages and link with menu items and make a link from shopping to you main page.

Your shop is basically a standalone page that can be linked from any existing site. Of course, it's nicer to have the look & feel of your shop match the site that you've already put together. To accomplish this, you'd have to look at the themes available in VSD & in SCC and try to find ones that appear to match up well.

So, the quick answer is 'Yes, this is OK.' But there's a lot more to making the whole thing appear homogeneous.

you can download a trial version of the cart and designer, in the cart manual there should be step by step instructions on how to insert the cart into VSD sites

Thanks Jimmy the Sailor & Chuck B. Hopefully, I can adapt my experience of VSD to create a look that matches the website ( in cart designer) and then launch it via Shopping cart creator.

From your comments I now understand that the shop part is just another link from the site and good design will make for smoother transition from one to the other.

I would also suggest using the Shopping Cart Designer, and I'd take that a step further and recommend the Pro version as it has a whole lot more settings you can do for your shop giving you a much better chance and ability to match it up to your already created site. My site also is an html site other than the Shop pages themselves and it works pretty slick designing it in the Pro version of SCD. Have fun
