Instead of using the 'picture' element, select the 'picture link' element. Then in the Element pane where it says Href, write the full URL to the site you want it to link to.

Can the original image be "live", ie. much as a Facebook link in a website shows what's happening now?

You can link FROM a picture or video clip sitting on your own site to somewhere else.

If you link FROM an image or video clip on your own site TO an image or video clip on someone else's site, you can risk that the owner of that other site changes out the content after some time, and then the links won't work. You have control over your own site, but not over other sites. If you change the contents on your own site, I'm sure you'll also modify any outgoing links if necessary.

I hope this answers your question. I'm not quite sure what you mean by the 'original' image

It might help if I tell you exactly what I want to do:

I run a charity website that links our physical charity shop to the charities whose Christmas cards we sell.
So I have a list of charities (25) with each giving 100 words describing what they do.
I would like to have a live link to their main (index) page that people could click on to go to that charities website, or just see it on my page where the 100 words are.
I hope that's clear!

Well, as I understand this, you have a brick-and-mortar (physical) shop for which you have a website.

The Christmas cards are probably produced by the charities themselves and are sold physically in your shop. The charities will have to produce the cards with a printed link included (as text, obviously) to whichever site they want the buyers of the cards to find.

On the website, you are probably also selling the cards, most likely digital versions of them that the buyers can download. You are probably displaying the cards on the website, and those displayed ones can have a link that takes the customers to the charities' website. If you want the links to work when people click on a card, you need to use the 'picture link' element. If, however, you want to place the link below each card, you can use the 'picture' element.

I see that at https://www.oncccs.org.uk/100-words.html there is at present a screenshot of the front page of the various charities, and underneath each screenshot there is a text link element leading to the relevant charity's website.

Probably what is wanted is simply that the screenshot of the relevant charity's website front page be replaced by viewing it in an iframe. It's simple to do as shown in the attached example.

I would get permission from the various sites to link in this way.

As the link is to the same page as I quoted, it seems possible that this was in response to Inger's post. The timings of forum posts shown on my screen suggest a 2 hour gap between my post and Barry's, but they were almost simultaneous. No doubt all will become clear in due course.

The timing of forum posts has always been a mess, they always show the wrong time of day. Only the dates seem to be correct.

Now that I've seen the site, I see that you have the '100 words' from each charity on your own page, and that those 100 words make up the links to the charity's own pages. That is a very peculiar way to do it. I mean, it is not wrong, but usually, you have the text, and then at the end of it there would be something like a sentence saying 'Visit our site at https://someplace.com' with the actual URL linked. If you did it like that, you could also format the text a bit, like e.g. same width as the images, a bit more space above and below, etc.
