Site Designer won't load - Post ID...

So I have two laptops - one with Windows 11, which Site Designer works well on.

I'd like to use it on my work laptop as well - which is pretty locked down (Windows 10). I do have admin rights on it though and I was able to install it - but when I try to run it, I see the hour glass for a few seconds, then nothing.

I've tried "run as admin" and run as different user - same thing.

I'm probably out of luck if it's because of work locking it down - but I am able to install and run other software without an issue.

Any ideas?

I hope someone with Windows 10 can reply to this. I was running Win 10 on my older laptop up until last summer, which means a couple of Site Designer builds ago. Everything was working ok then. I'm not aware of anything that may prevent the most recent builds to run on Win 11. If you don't get any help here, I'd suggest that you submit a support ticket, click on your name top right on the page and go to 'Your support room'.

But, you are saying that your work PC is 'pretty locked down'. What do you mean by that? Do you for example have internet access? Is there any malware or virus protection that is stopping it?

Yes I have internet access - and there is anti-virus - but I have no control over it. I'm kind of guessing at this point when I click the icon to load it, it's trying to reach out to CC to validate the license, or login initially, etc. It's probably being blocked or something...

Your access details are the same as you are using for logging into the Coffeecup forum, or into the list of your purchased programs. Are you using the correct details? If that's where the problem lies, you should contact CC support, as I said above. They will be able to help.

no, the program never loads - I don't even get a chance to enter my login details.

Hi Dave !

I have answered your question in your support room - to summarize, there should NOT be a reason why Site Designer would not start on Win 10 - other than some external program installed blocking it.

Not sure if you tried - right mouse click on the Site Designer app / shortcut and select "Run as Administrator" - that might work.

How about opening task manager then opening Site Designer, that might indicate something (just guessing though,)

Just musing -

1. Perhaps the installation was faulty. I would be inclined to
(a) do a complete uninstall (e.g. with Revo Uninstaller),
(b) reboot the computer,
(c) make a fresh download of the installation file from the 'My Purchases' section of this website,
(d) install that fresh download.

2. If the above doesn't do the trick, I would speak to whoever at work controls the restrictions placed on the work's laptop. The fact that some other programs will install and work OK doesn't, of course, mean that every other such program will do so. For example, maybe the work's own software, like Site Designer, uses Qt (one can look up Qt (software) on Wikipedia) and a restriction is made to prevent the running of other software that uses it. Maybe the permissions on the work's computer are by reference to a list of commonly used software.
