Now that HTML 5 is a reality, how about an application that embeds non-native fonts into style sheets?

It sure would take the tedium out of going to FontSquirrel and all the rest of the steps.

What do you think, hmmm?

If I understand you correctly, CC have that already. Check out the Web Font app.

The Web Font app converts fonts to Flash which is sort of a bulky solution for large text blocks or for big sites that use a particular font throughout. Now, with HTML 5, we can specify an entire font to download to the user's machine and display natively in their browser. In short, it's the "real" font, not a representation of it. But, it's a tedious procedure getting the font converted via FontSquirrel, then writing the specific call in your style sheets.

I'll bet the folks at CoffeeCup could streamline the process with an application.

They're fine, David, but I'm hoping CoffeeCup puts together a one-click solution that reduces the number of steps involved in the process. Fewer steps = fewer chances to mess things up. Plus, it'd be nice to be able to directly use the fonts on my machine without having to duplicate them at FontSquirrel.

Google Code's got a beta Web Font API now. They offer a lot of fonts but I'd rather not be restricted to their selection. Nor do I want my pages tied into a beta participation program.

Strangely, a month has passed without a response from a CC representative. :/

Hiya Kevin,

CC's staff does not always post things, our job is to basically see that we post what we want to see or not see in future programs, updates, etc. so that the team can read them and use the posts for reference to what their users would like to have. Posting responses to them is not always done, nor a normal practice so I wouldn't expect it in most cases on suggestion forums. Once in a while they will comment if they see something needing a comment, but not too often. Rest assured though that they do see the posts and read them and take them into consideration. :)

Have something to add? We’d love to hear it!
