I'd like to see a utility whereby a user can drag and drop a 3d model file into it and the utility will tell how many vertices and polygons are on the model. It must work with multiple formats, 3ds, max, rwx, obj, etc.

There is one program out there called VP Grabber from a company called www.pelican3d.com located on download.com but it only works for rwx files and since rwx is nearly obsolete, it's not the best choice.

I love 3D. What do the members think? I think we should be doing some programs in this wonderful area. Frieda

My thoughts run to 3D fonts, Xara like landscape elements, interiors, animals, birds,The list is really endless. What about 3D animations.. I have to do an upgrade of my site(www.whitedog.ca) and its what I would love to do instead of the static photo backgrounds, .race cars actually racing, horses running in a field, etc. Leaves fluttering. A person could create just what we want for graphic interest on our pages without ever having to locate the perfect photo, getting permission to use it, bla bla. You know.

The only problem with 3D is that it makes very large files so we would have to do something about that. I can't be the only person who could use such a tremendous world of 3D.

Wow. 3D is pretty intense, and existing modeling applications run upwards of US$1000 or more. That's my area of interest/expertise, personally, but I'm not sure the CoffeeCup staff is ready to expand as much as they'd need to in order to develop their own modeling software when the industry already offers several well-known ones.

If they are, on the other hand, I'd be all about wanting to be a beta tester!

Everything we do we have competition. They could start by putting together a good photoshop for a reasonable price. Now there is where there is competition. We just have to get some unique ideas going and I think we could do it..then we take the 3D mountain. As far as beta testing goes, you are right behind me in line. &8*D F

There was a great counter to Photoshop called Paint Shop Pro, by JASC, which I still use extensively. It's even compatible with Photoshop plug-ins. Alas, Corel bought them out and absorbed it into their stable, and now it's marketed as just a photo fixing tool. It used to have an animation shop, fabulous vector graphics capability, and did pretty much everything Photoshop did except handle CMYK properly. Print media was always its weakness. I don't know what Corel has done to it, but if you can find version 9 on eBay it's gold. When new it retailed for only $125.
