Anyone Ever Used Kickstarter.com? -...
Long story short, we've been shot down for traditional financing on what we thought was a pretty small amount and I'd been hearing about crowdfunding and thought it might work for us.
Apparently, I greatly overestimated my ability to create a buzz and our project got off to a very slow start and has now basically stalled.
I've been pushing on FB and Twitter, of course. Added an email signature to all my accounts, asked several local papers and radio stations if they would be interested in doing a story on us (what we're doing is going to be new to our area since we're behind the times compared to the more metro regions) but none are interested or they all have deadlines that would put publication well past our end-of-campaign date.
It's a food related thing so I have even requested re-tweets from a lot of the celeb type chefs that I follow and two of them were kind enough to do so but nothing came of it as far as resulting in making our numbers climb.
I was just wondering if anyone else has had any experience with the site or running a campaign there (or elsewhere like IndieGogo, etc...) and if there is anything else I can try to generate some activity.
I see a lot of campaigns that have been successfully funded, some soaring way above their initial goal but they all seem to be large cities which I'm sure has something to do with it. Not too many people are likely to stumble on us by browsing by region.
Any input or suggestions would be appreciated, I'm really trying to make this happen for my husband.
Thanks,
Lee

Getting noticed is the holy grail of all web designers. First you need to study your competitor's sites especially those with good rankings.
Have a look at their descriptions and meta tags. Their method of enticing traffic. One thing I found was join an appropriate forum/s to help and discuss your field of expertise.
The biggie. Give something away, I create software and my main site I did just that to get top ranking with no Face Book, No Twitter. Make sure you have a good product and it will sell itself. Google likes to see Adsence adds. You get a small return and Google recognises a site advertising its wares. all adds to ranking.
I hope Viv a Jewellery Manufacturer will jump in. He is no web design expert but has some real important lessons to give. I hang on his every word, Shame he doesn't migrate here, I could really suck his brains, over some suds of course. I would even introduce him to some of our Prawns that's what we call them, some call them small lobsters
Let loose Viv give the lady the drum she needs your help

Prism,
Thanks for the kind reply. The Kickstarter campaign is not an actual site in the sense that it is not a permanent home on the web promoting goods or services. It's a fundraising site on which I have a project for which I'm trying to garner support. It's not something that will ever get SEO ranked or the type of thing that works with ppc or ppm.
I did not post the link to the actual campaign because I did not want my post to be misconstrued as just link promotion. You can go to the main kickstarter.com site and you'll see a myriad of projects posted and that should provide a better idea of what it is.
But again, thanks for taking the time to reply, it is appreciated.

It seems people (and $$$) flock to the quirky, techy, unusual stuff. A truck just doesn't have the same appeal. Is there a certain area you could target – maybe where there are offices but not much in the way of food choices? Maybe you could run some sort of contest to drive people to the Kickstarter site. Something like a free lunch deal for the the top donating businesses?
Does your chamber of commerce or city website have a news/events section? Have you tried getting some notice there?
Also, get a Mail Chimp account (free) and send out a professional looking news/update email campaign to everyone you know.
Good Luck!

On facebook, I've had success by giving stuff away(most of the time, but once in a while, ugg..). Good karma, and good ROI. On the website maybe do a 10% off coupon for subscribing, and always have a "call to action"<-(what you want them to do) on your pages.
Hope it works out for you, and positive thought your way.
