Has anyone else come across this....
I clicked on a site link and as soon as it opened, some music started playing. I put the volume all the way down on the computer, but could still hear it, just not quite as loud. Tried the volume slider on the webpage and it went down some more, but it was still possible to hear it (like when you can hear music leaking from someone else's headphones). Very strange :o
It doesn't happen on YouTube, by the way.

This better not be Jo Ann's gremlins on the loose!
(This was on an Acer, 32 bit with Windows 8, it doesn't happen on my Win 7 computer.)

I'm seeing a few Win 8 oddities myself but I haven't heard any.

I've tried to like Win8, but it's been really hard. Maybe if I had it on a touch-screen pad it would be different. On a laptop, it's just a bunch of extra junk between me and my files/programs.
Even the clock in the bottom taskbar doesn't work right anymore. If I've been in desktop mode for awhile, the clock stops and I have to switch to the Metro view for a second so it will reset to the correct time.

paintbrush it sounds to me like you have a bad install to be honest. I've had that happen quite a few times over the years of formats. I personally love Windows 8 so far. It's got a few quirks but since I discovered True Launch Bar my life is heaven with it lol.
http://truelaunchbar.com

Cheap little tool that is basically like a cross between a toolbar and a task bar. Lots of things you can put on it and you have full control over every aspect of what is on it. You can put shortcuts, folders, create a sort of Quick Launch Bar, clock, IP, weather, even a button for turning your computer off. There's a ton more, but those are the functions I use the most. It's like 13 bux or something like that, really cheap and worth every penny!

Outside of that being really the only problem I have with Windows 8 (file and folder access is more difficult without the True Launch Bar), it's working pretty slick for me. I even have it tied into Facebook so I get a popup if someone messages me so I don't have to worry if I only check my facebook every other week or so lol I won't miss the messages this way :P

I also love the new dual monitor system which allows you to see a different background on each monitor, simple thing I know, but a cool thing too. The Windows button puts you 1 button away from the Start Screen which I hardly use to be honest. I created folders on my True Launch Bar with categories to all the shortcuts I need/want/add so the Start Page is just a novelty for me for checking out apps that I don't really use either lol.

I dunno, I truly love it even though SirAge told me I'd hate it lol. Try that True Launch Bar tool and see if that will help at all :)

Other than that, I would truly think about a format/reinstall and see if that fixes a few of the quirks you're having cuz I retired my gremlins on Per's computer so I don't think he's sharing yet :P

It was a BAD install (not like Jo Ann means) – Because it removed all my existing programs/software from the computer, then refused to finish installing until I took all of my files off as well :P
It's an old laptop (Vista), and Win8 was only $39, so it seemed worth giving it a try. Maybe it would be different on a newer machine, but I'm not about to sacrifice my main computer to it. :o

This is the OS equivalent of using MS Paint when you'd rather be working in Photoshop

Jo Ann, thanks for the link, but I've had other glitchy things besides the sound and clock (Flash, PDF and file saving issues), so I won't be using this computer for much of anything beyond checking email and web browsing.

Paintbrush, I originally installed W8 on top of W7, and there were issues with that, similar to what you're saying about files, programmes etc. I then reformatted the laptop and installed W8 as a clean install, and everything worked much better.

But I still don't like w8, it's an extra 2 or 3 clicks to find what I want compared both to XP, Vista and w7. I may try that launch thingie that JoAnn mentioned...
