Does anyone know if you can add a link to a calendar item. I would like to have the ability to associate a link with a calendar item for complete details on an item.

Yes you can. If I understand you correctly. When you you create an event for a day on your calendar, it creates a popup with the information you enter. There is also an option on that event page to insert links and photos. Look beside the 'Description' where it shows the bold and italics icons, the next one over is to add a link.
