Web Calendar defaults to presenting dates in the US mm. dd.yy format (annoyingly). Is there no way to set it to use dd.mm.yy ?

You only have 2 options in the settings. Go to 'Calendar' then 'Options' off the top menu. Should get a popup where you can change the date format from dd/mm/yyyy to mm/dd/yyyy

You can also set the first day of the week to either Sunday or Monday from this option.
