Appointment Scheduling on Website -...

I have a friend who is a golf instructor. He asked me if it was possible to create an appointment calendar on his website that would allow students to schedule a lesson at a specific time during the day. When chosen that time would be "grayed out" so no one else could schedule that time. I know there are services available to do such a thing, but would Coffeecup's Web Form Builder be capable of producing this result?

The CC Form Builder would let someone make an appointment, but it would take lots of customization to have it manage a calendar as well. I think you'd have to pretty much rebuild FB to include the calendar functions and turn it into a full-service appointment scheduler.
Have you looked into appointment/booking software? Here's several with reviews/ratings:

Thanks, Paintbrush. Would like to buy software rather than pay a monthly fee, so I will look at what is available from the various vendors on the capterra website. Appreciate the help!

I bookmarked a few myself ;). I usually prefer to own my software, but in this case, I'd just as soon the client pay for the service and I have nothing to do with it after it's set up. I wouldn't want any software glitches or mix-ups coming back to me.:o
BookFresh looks interesting, lots of features for $20 per month. The bad review on the capterra site is from before they were bought by Square.

If you and/or your client have access to the cPanel or equivalent check the preloaded software listing in there as there is probably something that will be no cost to you or very minimal. I'm looking at my cPanel which has the Softaculous apps installation setup, and there is a program called Booked in there that should do exactly what you're needing. I see no reference to a price or cost of any kind so you should check your hosting cPanel and see what's in there. :)

Might want to take a look at these people at Stiva Soft under brand name PHPJabbers.
http://www.phpjabbers.com/php-scripts.php

They have ten or so different types of booking software several of which would probably meet your needs. Single domains seem to be priced at $49.00.

I use a couple of their other packages and have been well pleased with their scripts.
