I know this is not directly related to Coffeecup, but I trust the folks in this forum and I'm sure others will benefit from this post.

I have an existing domain registered with 123cheapdomains.com. I am setting up hosting service with justhost.com. I'm a bit confused about transferring a domain or changing names servers. Are there really two options? Can I just update the names servers on 123cheapdomains.com to the justhost servers and keep my registration with 123? If you transfer, does that mean you are transferring the hosting and registration.

I'd like to handle this the easiest way possible.

Thanks,

The easiest way to do this is just to update the name servers and point to your new server. Transferring the domain from one registrar to another isn't too difficult, but it can be time consuming and you may incur some costs. There is also no real technical reason to ever move a domain from one registrar to another.

I believe ICANN rules state no charge can be applied for domain transfer. The money you pay is for an additional year on top of the existing time. Their rules also state that a transfer must be made within 5 days from the date of request (assuming the domain is unlocked and the proper auth code is provided). Additionally, you can not transfer a domain within 60 days of registration. Some folks would argue the point of not registering a domain with the same host.
