Link to .exe file via mouseover...
I am using Visual Site Designer 7.0 and I have very little HTML coding experience.
I have uploaded (3) .exe files to the root directory.
I want to link to them individually via mouseover buttons and ideally for them to begin executing with the mouseover action alone.
Please let me know how close I can come to achieving this.
Best regards,
Chris Edwards

So you want them to run on the server or the client side?
I can't hear what I'm looking at.
It's easy to overlook something you're not looking for.

Just curious here on what type of file you would have run on an website when people mouse over it?
Eric: I want them to run on the client side.
Jo Ann: Slideshow files using Faststone Image Viewer.

The program is free so why not just put a link to it on your site for users to download it. Running a exe file from a server to a client will get mixed results, especially with user having IE. I bet most will have security settings blocking the exe file from running.

I would have to agree with Eric, I for one would be extremely unnerved if I moused over something on a website and was prompted to install a file. I would most likely close that box and leave the site, so you might risk upsetting your visitors and losing many of them using that method.
I agree that the Download link would be a much better solution, not to mention easier on your bandwidth too if the download came directly from the company that creates it.

The only thing we might be missing is what he actually is looking for. I wonder if he's actually looking for a slideshow program for web pages.

Thank you both for your comments. As I said, I mostly have the ideas without (so far) the web design expertise which is why I joined the community.
To clarify: The slideshows are my own creation using Faststone Image Viewer, (which I have considerable experience with). The client will have to download the application in order to play them.
However, my clients will be personally invited to the site and be made aware of the requirements.
If I understand correctly, sending them a link to the individual slideshows would be safer from a technical standpoint.

Hiya Christopher,
I don't know that it's a "safer" setup as much as a considerate setup really. For the most part when someone needs a software to use to view something on a website the website will usually provide a link for people to click to get that software. You could put something on your site that says something like:
To view these slideshows you will need to use *insert software program name here* and you can get it at this location to install:
*insert link to the software site that provides the software here*
This way it's a choice your users are manually making rather than having to close a box every time they may mouse over that link. That would be the normal way to provide someone with the information for a program needed to use your products or items.

I would not take the route of having the user download a file to view the images. There's plenty of ways to embed a slide show right in your website making it safer and more convenient for users. What if I the user is on a mobile device.
