Hello all,
Just wondering if some one can explain what they consider a max-width to use these days?
I have been using max-width 1024px wondering if 1300-1400 is the best these days because of larger monitors?
Is a min-width used? If so is 320px what many do use?

As far as a "container" in the drop-down using only a container-div is mostly what is used?
I know about the Header, Footer and the Nav Containers but I also see the Main, Article Aside and Figure are these used often or not to worry?

Hi Ray,
I typically go by what I have available to easily test on for max width depending on the site layout. The idea is to make the site look good to you at all screen sizes so it doesn't matter. If you want to contain your site to a max width make sure it looks good to that width. As far as the min make sure it looks good to at least 320 if not slightly below. If you have any doubts, place google analytics on your site and see who and what is actually visiting.

I appreciate your reply and it makes sense, since I don't use any full bg images etc. setting max-width to 1250 looks good and set lowest BP to 400 but will change to 320 to play it safe.

The containers Main, article, aside etc are good to indicate to the crawlers/bots etc, the schema markup for SEO stuff for the pages.

Also using schema.org markup can help get those red stars and content-rich descriptions (rather than the descriptions chosen by Google) you may have seen on Search Result Pages.

The schema markup is recognized by the big boy (or girl) of the search engine world Google, and some of its followers: Bing, Yahoo! Firefox, and Yandex for sure. other search engines are starting to use this markup to change their search results but it is not known 100% yet who & how many are.

Well thanks for the schema info Wayan one thing for sure that is something I cannot even start to think about will only stay with the basic things.

What Eric said is very important. Make sure that it looks good at all widths. Something to keep in mind is that people need to be able to easily read by just moving their eyes. They also need for their eyes to be able to track easily from one line to the next.

Therefore, I generally constrain the max-width of my content to no more than 1024 centered on the screen. It won't make any difference to smaller screens, but I think it helps the user on larger screens. I have made some exceptions based on the content of the page, but that's my general preference.

Thanks Brian- I was confused about the Max-Width and FF had the highest BP set to that 1024px I now understand that it is the content that is more important. Aftet testing for me max at 1024px to 1200 will be ok.
