Gentlemen,
You've got my vote (for whatever that may be worth). Here is yet another request for the option to route HTML Editor previews through localhost.
BTW, having enjoyed good, useful results with both Wampserver and XAMPP, I offer a recommendation: Standardize on Wampserver if you intend to develop only on Windows, since it is simpler to set up and use. Standardize on XAMPP if you intend to develop on Linux, Mac OS and Windows, since it is more universal.
I have a dual-booting Win XP-Pro 64-bit / Ubuntu Linux 12.04 64-bit development PC. Since Linux is (1) able to mount Windows filesystems and (2) supports symbolic links, I've found that it's possible to install XAMPP on both operating systems and then (when in Linux) direct Apache and MySQL to the necessary files on the Windows filesystem. That way, I can flip back & forth from one OS to the other to see how my Web design looks with OS-specific default font sets on multiple browsers.
For convenience, I do the same trick with Mozilla Firefox browser and Thunderbird email client.
I haven't tried this with Windows installed in a virtual machine, but I imagine it would work.
Nor have I tried it with Mac OS, but I imagine that the Linux roots of Mac OS would allow it to work as well. Please let me know if you try it.
