Some Fonts Seem to Have "Drop Shadow"...

Hello:

Whenever I use a red or orange "Arial" font in a text box, it looks bright red or bright orange in the VSD editor. But as soon as I move my cursor off of that text box (to select or highlight another element on the page), the red or orange text takes on a "drop shadow" look, with a greyish tinge.

It makes the lettering less clear, less colorful, and even a little bit "dirty" looking.

I've tried checking and unchecking "Use Advanced text" and I've looked at the Object, Fill, Effect, and Styles property inspectors for my text boxes, but it's not apparent where I may be going wrong.

Blacks, blues, and greens look good. Reds and oranges look "dingy", and this seems to only apply to text boxes, not buttons. When the site is generated, the affected text has the same dingy look.

Clarification: Using a font other than Arial seems to reduce the phenomenon to some extent. However, I prefer to use Arial font throughout my site, because I think it's the most easy-reading font.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

Are you using the advanced text setting?(ie. "enter text",click object-> advanced text is checked). This will make the text look different.

Hi, and thanks for your response.

Yes, as mentioned in my first post, I have tried it both with and without the "Use Advanced Text" option. No apparent difference; oranges and reds are dingy regardless of the setting.

Sorry, my bad, Have you tried uploading and previewing the text to see what it looks like.I know my text sometimes on VSD has a "dingy look" until you look at it on the web.

Hi, Rod.

No sir, the "dingy" text looks the same on VSD as it does on preview (both on VSD's browser and on my befault browser, IE7), and that's the same as it does on my site (clarification: From my server).

It sure does appear to look like a badly-applied drop-shadow effect; but I have that turned off.

Hi again Bif,

Heres some trouble shooting ideas that I would try and might help:

Used VSD for a while and this is a new one for me, but here's a couple of my ideas:

1-Copy you text to note pad(if there is a lot) and deleting the text on your page, save and close your VSD page. Reopen and try inserting the text.

2-Open another VSD program on your desktop(you will have 2 open). Make a new page to see if it looks dingy on that one. Unless you have a lot of objects, try moving to the new page.

I hope one of those help.

This phenomenon is happening on all pages of my website.

However, your idea has much technical merit, so I will do some testing with a brand new site file, etc. I'll post the results here. Thanks for sticking with me on this one.

Did you ever get this figured out, we have this same problem on one of our websites. Look at www.sicovers.com and click on a cover. On the product page the name of the frames "Medium Walnut" and "Satin Black" have the "drop shadow"/"grey tinge" manifestation in IE7/8 in both XP and Vista.

Hi,

What is the direct web address and did you do this area with VSD or is this a problem with different cc software?
